West Australian Music Fair Play Report Launch

Stemming from industry forums held by WAM in mid 2017 with female members of the WA music industry, Fair Play presents the first comprehensive examination of the gendered experience of women working in and engaging with the West Australian contemporary music scene. Experiences from the perspectives of musicians, industry practitioners and consumers are included with the report examining incidences of gender discrimination, sexual harassment and assault with a view to raise awareness and encourage greater gender equality within the space. WA is a fantastic place to create music, however great strides need to be made to achieve equality in the industry for female, trans and non-binary practitioners. Fair Play outlines recommendations that not only build on WAM’s existing projects (such as Girls Rock! WA, Women’s Music Network (WMN’s) Meetings, Diversity Committee and Diversity-minded programming across all programs) but would also greatly aid the sector through the implementation of the report’s recommendations.
