International Women’s Day is held throughout the world on 8 March to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is a day to highlight the great progress we have made towards gender equality. It is also a day to recognise what still needs to be done and to create awareness about how we can play our part in making change for better.
To celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day in Western Australia, the Department of Communities is launching the social media based “More Powerful Together” campaign. We want to recognise the important contribution that women make to building strong, safe, inclusive and thriving communities in Western Australia. The theme ‘More Powerful Together’ also recognises the important role men and gender diverse peoples play to advance gender equality. It takes all of us, working in collaboration and breaking down stereotypes and gendered roles, to create a world where women and girls everywhere have equal rights and opportunities.
There are many ways that individuals, groups and organisations can get involved in International Women’s Day 2019 and share the message that gender equality and diversity benefits us all—families, organisations, communities and the state.
