Taking place on Thursday, 28 March, at Burswood on Swan, the Achiever Awards Presentation Event celebrated and rewarded the incredible spirit and determination of young people with a care experience who are pursuing their career goals through further education and training.
More than 230 guests watched on with pride as the young winners triumphantly accepted their accolades; budding film-makers, teachers and chefs were just a few among the record-breaking number of recipients.
The Department’s signature child protection event proved to be a truly humbling and inspiring ceremony, where our winners were encouraged to always focus on their strengths, look to the path ahead and know that they are wholeheartedly supported.
The Hon Simone McGurk MLA, Minister for Child Protection, officiated at the event and even advocated for the Premier to attend next year’s awards to celebrate the program’s 30th anniversary!
This year, the program gained two new partners: CCI Apprenticeship Support Australia and Graduate Women WA, and a new scholarship – the STEMbassador Scholarship – which is an additional $2,000 prize for a female Achiever Award winner who is pursuing a qualification in the science, technology, engineering or mathematics fields, was also announced.
As part of the program, one Achiever Award winner receives the Community Spirit Award, which recognises and celebrates a commitment to community service and leadership.
Twenty-three year old Evangelin (Eva) Muilenburg was this year’s winner, a true inspiration with an invincible attitude and passion for helping others.
Eva was in tears as she accepted her award for her ongoing commitment to volunteerism, fundraising efforts and mentorship to local young people.
