Western Australian volunteers really are ‘Changing Communities. Changing Lives.’ – the theme for this year’s National Volunteer Week, which runs 18 –24 May 2020.

Each year, more than 1.5 million Western Australians freely offer their time and skills to support many of our vital community services and activities.

As a proud champion of WA volunteers, the Department of Communities is encouraging everyone to get behind Volunteering Australia’s social media campaign to thank our volunteers.

Give a Big Wave

Snap a selfie giving a big wave with a smile on your hand in a creative way, to share your appreciation of our volunteers. Post your wave selfie on social media and don't forget to use the hashtags #NVW2020 and #waveforvolunteers

For more information on how you can celebrate WA volunteers during National Volunteer Week 2020, including hosting online events, please refer to Volunteering WA’s National Volunteer Week Guide

The Department of Communities has a long history of supporting WA volunteers and working with Volunteering WA to support the sector.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 many National Volunteer Week celebrations have been cancelled, including the WA Volunteer Awards that Communities sponsors. Award nominations for 2020 will be automatically transferred to the 2021 awards, and nominators will be contacted in 2021 to update the application. Visit Volunteering WA for more awards information.
