The first social homes have been completed under the $221 million Housing and Homelessness Investment Package (HHIP), with the first tenants due to move in later this month.
A five-bedroom family home in Camballin Loop, Bertram is the first of four properties completed by WA builder Shelford Construction.
Under the HHIP, $125 million has been allocated to supply up to 300 new social homes in Western Australia, with the remaining $6 million allocated towards the refurbishment and maintenance of existing properties. To date, 210 homes have been allocated for construction in the Perth metropolitan area, with another 90 to be built in regional WA. Maintenance to 91 properties has been completed and refurbishments are due to commence in 2021-22.
Homes built and refurbished under the program will enable the Department of Communities to provide more social housing for some of the most vulnerable Western Australians, while also providing more affordable housing for people on low-to-moderate incomes.
