The Department of Communities is inviting the state’s community housing providers to apply for a share in $1.5 million in grants to undertake maintenance on community housing properties in regional WA.

Funded through Communities’ Social Housing Economic Recovery Package (SHERP), the grants will enable community housing providers to contract maintenance works to improve the liveability of the properties they manage.

Up to $20,000 per provider per region is available for maintenance works to be undertaken by 30 June 2021, with both registered and non-registered providers eligible to apply.

The total value of grants awarded will be determined by the strength of applications received.

Overseeing the management of more than 8000 properties and associated client services, WA’s community housing sector plays a vital role in delivering safe and secure housing for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Communities is working in partnership with Shelter WA—the peak body for the WA community housing sector—to ensure the community housing sector receives much needed investment.

Community housing providers can review the grant documentation and submit their application via the listing on our Grants & Funding site. Applications close on Monday 1 February 2021 at 2:30pm WST.

Announced by the State Government in June 2020, the $319 million SHERP will see the delivery of maintenance works to up to 3800 regional social (community and public) housing properties along with subsidised housing for regional government workers.

Additionally, up to 1500 public, supported residential and community housing properties will be refurbished through the SHERP and up to 250 new social housing properties will be constructed across WA.

In addition to this grant process, tenders for the construction of ‘shovel-ready’ new community housing (up to $33 million) and refurbishment of existing community housing properties (up to $40 million) under the SHERP are expected to be released in the first half of 2021.

Community housing providers seeking further information on the grant application process can contact Communities’ Evaluations Manager on 08 9440 2228 or by email at
