Volunteers are the backbone of our community, 587 000 people in WA volunteered last year and contributed work valued at $6.6 billion per year.
The Department for Communities fosters the development of volunteering in Western Australia through policy development and the provision of specialised programs.
We do this by:
- providing funding to Volunteer Resource Centres and Volunteering WA to support the development of volunteering
- conducting research and providing advice to the government and non-government sectors
- liaising with other government agencies on the development of policy and programs
- providing grants and certificates for Thank a Volunteer Day, and
- promoting volunteering through community events such as National Volunteer Week.
