The Department for Communities has a lead role in encouraging a coordinated response to the implementation of the Government’s policy priorities for seniors. One of our major priorities is to increase seniors' social participation and improve their safety and security.
We value the important contributions that seniors make to our communities and recognise the diversity of issues that affect them. Specifically we are:
- working in partnership with other government departments, seniors' organisations, service providers and academia, to develop policy and programs
- producing research and statistical analysis on the socio-economic trends among ageing populations
- contributing to future planning on the development of communities that meet the access and mobility requirements of seniors
- offering support services to seniors who are at risk of elder abuse (including financial)
supporting grandparents who are raising their grandchildren on a full time basis; and
- promoting positive profiles of seniors through our events and awards.
The Department is also responsible for the Seniors Card and provides a telephone information service to seniors.
