What we do

The Department of Local Government and Communities develops programs and policies that meet the needs of young people aged 12 to 25 years in Western Australia.

DLGC works with young people, community groups and government agencies at local, state and national levels to meet the diverse needs of young people in a variety of ways, including:

  • consulting with young people and other stakeholders to determine emerging issues and trends and inform and influence decisions and services
  • leading policy reform in key areas of youth affairs such as youth mentoring
  • funding youth activities, organisations and strategic projects in the youth sector, and
  • coordinating key initiatives that promote the positive contribution made by young people in the community, such as National Youth Week

Our Youth-Our Future

Our Youth-Our Future (8.69MB PDF) is the State Government’s strategic framework for youth programs and service planning. The framework was developed in partnership with 14 State Government agencies, with input from WA’s young people.
