Parenting WA

Parenting WA  helps parents and carers keep up-to-date on information and events about parenting in Western Australia.

As parents, you are the most important person in your child’s life.

Parenting WA offers an information, support and referral service to parents, carers, grandparents and families with children up to 18 years of age.

Parenting WA services are free and no referral is needed.

Many parents find life with a child a joyful but challenging experience. Children’s needs change as they grow and each stage brings new challenges.

Parenting WA’s trained staff are available to work with parents on:

  • specific parenting needs and will help identify and develop strategies to successfully manage implementation in the home.

  • managing the different challenges of parenting children from infancy and childhood through to teenage years

  • understanding the different stages of child development

  • information about local community support services.

Parenting coordinators, located throughout Western Australia, can provide individual parenting discussions, group sessions and workshops.

Parenting WA also provides the Parenting WA Line, a 24/7 telephone information service, a library rich with useful resources, parenting guides and an on-line guide to parenting courses in WA.

Strategic Framework

The Parenting WA Strategic Framework provides a vision and framework to support policy and provide service delivery to support families in Western Australia. The framework sets out our core values, principles, objectivities and strategies, key areas of focus, emerging trends and industry issues. Our over-arching objectivities are:

  • Strengthening Parents - Parenting WA will provide opportunities for all Western Australian parents to seek support and current information about parenting children from pre-birth to 18 years.

  • Strengthening the Parenting Sector - Parenting WA will establish and maintain recognisable leadership and coordination role with the national and Western Australian parenting sector.

  • Strengthening Communities - Parenting WA will establish and maintain strong partnerships with parents, communities and organisations with Western Australia to strengthen each community's capacity to support effective parenting.

A full copy of the framework is available under resources, on your right, or view a summary A3.

A literature review is also available. The review was conducted as background research and provides the understanding of the framework.
