National Youth Week
National Youth Week is the largest celebration of young people on the Australian youth calendar. It provides young people with opportunities to express ideas, showcase talents and have their voices heard.
The Department for Communities is responsible for the overall coordination of National Youth Week in Western Australia.
Key events National Youth Week 2012 events were developed and delivered in collaboration with the young people through the National Youth Week Young People Planning Committees, youth organisations, such as Propel Youth Arts WA, Investing in Our Youth Inc. and Perth City Youth Advisory Council, and local government authorities including City of Bunbury and the Shire of Dardanup.
It is estimated that around 4 000 young people, attended the key National Youth Week events.
Main sponsors of National Youth Week 2012 in WA included youthbeyondblue, the Australian Department of Education, Employment and Workforce Relations, Mental Health Commission and Lotterywest.
National Youth Week Small Grant Projects
The Department for Communities sponsored around 80 National Youth Week events across the state in 2012 through the National Youth Week Small grant program. Around two thirds of all grants went to regional events.
