Young people add the energy, enthusiasm and creativity that propel our community in new and exciting directions.
As Minister for Youth, it is a privilege to see first-hand the quality of leadership, passion and commitment of young people across the state. Western Australia’s young people make an outstanding contribution to the social, economic and cultural life of our communities.
The Department for Communities – Youth works with young people, community groups and government agencies to support young people’s participation in decision-making and planning the services to meet their diverse needs. It also works to encourage wellbeing and positive images of young people while promoting opportunities for them to reach their full potential as respected and contributing members of the community.
This website has been developed to provide young Western Australians and community organisations with resources, ideas and information on programs that can recognise and foster their skills, talent and innovative ideas. There are also links to programs designed to develop leadership and teamwork skills through a range of activities and experiences. For community organisations, there are details on how you can apply for grant funding to provide important youth services, programs and initiatives.
Young people today are keenly interested in being involved in decision-making on local, national and global issues, and are very articulate when expressing their opinions. As your views are important, the website includes initiatives such as ‘The Panel’ and ‘One Sky, Many Paths’, which enable you to obtain leadership skills and have your voice heard on the issues that concern you.
I encourage all young people and their families to explore this website. It is a wonderful resource that supports the positive development of young Western Australians and I commend it to you.
