
We have responsibility for child care licensing, as well as providing information and support to assist parents choose a child care option and make informed decisions about the quality of child care offered to their child.
Child care licensing
The Department for Communities is responsible for licensing and monitoring child care services through our Child Care Licensing and Standards Unit (CCLSU).
CCLSU contributes to the quality of child care in Western Australia by ensuring child care services comply with the Child Care Services Act 2007 and the minimum standards set in the relevant child care Regulations. Learn more about Child Care Licensing.
Finding the right child care
To help families with choosing the right type of child care for their child What About Child Care? guides and checklists are now available - see Child Care Options. A register of licensed WA child care services is also available to assist parents locate a child care provider that is suitable for their family situation.

Children’s services officers and parenting coordinators can also help with information about local services, finding a service that is right for a child, ideas to help settle a child into child care and how to have positive relationships with child carers.
To help parents make an informed decision on the quality of child care offered to their child the department publishes Enforcement Actions, where a licensed service is found to be seriously non-compliant with the Child Care Services Act 2007 and Regulations.
